Electronically controlled ME/ME-C engines

Silniki

Characteristics:

Detailed observation and diagnostics of ME series engines also revealed:

The operators of engines also indicated lower fluctuations in engine revolutions during stormy weather compared to fluctuations in engines with fuel injection controlled by distribution shaft. The fuel savings of the order of 4% were indicated in comparison to engines without electronic control.

Detailed specification:

The essence of the engines from this group is based on automatic and hydraulic system of fuel injection activation and on the control of exhaust valves. The activating devices are electronically controlled here, through determined number of controlling systems forming "Engine Control System".

Fuel injection in the engines of ME series is improved by supporting pressure device (Buster), which mechanically is a simpler device compared to fuel pumps used in traditional engines of MC series. The fuel plunger in engines of ME series is driven by piston activated by electronically controlled, hydraulically dosing oil valve, which is also the source of fuel in this case. Also the exhaust valve is, in engines of ME series, hydraulically opened, and closed by pneumatic shockabsorber.

Similarly as it is in case of buster supporting the fuel injection in ME engines, also electronically controlled activator of exhaust valve is driven by pressure dosing of oil, which in case of the mentioned exhaust valve, is conducted through control valve of turn on/off type or another control valve. In hydraulic circulation (see fig. no 8, p. 6), the lubricating oil is used as medium. It undergoes filtration in secondary purification filter (filter of accurate purification) and then it is pressurized in hydraulic power supply system mounted on the engine. Separate hydraulic oil system is optional in ME engines. Additionally, the ME series engines can be equipped with electronically controlled main pumps.

The oil after passing the hydraulic system of power supply goes to hydraulic cylinder units (see fig. no 9, p. 6). Each cylinder of the engine is equipped with one such unit. Each unit consists of fuel buster and activator of exhaust valve. Hydraulic cylinder unit (Hydraulic Cylinder Unit - HCU) includes also control valve FIVA (Fuel injection valve(Fuel Injection) and valve actuation (Valve Actuation))
