Design

The two-stage VC20.96 piston air compressor is a reciprocating piston-type compressor with V twin arrangement of cylinders, two stages of compression and cylindrical pistons.

Power unit

With its 90-degree V-arrangement of cylinders and the fully-counterbalanced reciprocating parts of Stage 1 and Stage 2, the unit operates steady and quietly across the entire usable speed range (up to 1800 rpm).

Lubrication

The required lubricating oil pressure is provided by an easily accessible gear oil pump with an overflow valve. The pump is driven directly from the crankshaft, through a coupling. A fine oil filter is provided as standard as an effective solution to enable extended oil change intervals.

Valves

The compressor is fitted with self-acting concentric plate valves installed in each compression stage to provide an optimum air flow. The valves are designed and located in order to enable easy assembly and disassembly which is vital for periodic maintenance activities.

Cooling

The intercooler and the after cooler are built-in into the cylinder blocks of Stage 1 and Stage 2, respectively. The cooling water flows through the channels in the cylinder blocks, cooling both the compressed air in the copper tubing and the cylinder liners at the same time.

Air purging

The compressor is provided with water and oil separators. The separator after Stage 1 is built-in into the back plate of Stage 1 cylinder block. The final separator is provided as a self-contained unit. The condensate tanks are drained automatically.

Drive

As standard, the compressor is driven by an electric motor through a flexible coupling.

Protection measures

Compressed air safety valves after each compression stage and a water space safety valve. A lubricating oil pressure sensor and a compressed air temperature sensor, designed to stop the compressor once the preset thresholds are exceeded.

Capacity control

The compressor capacity is adjusted to the compressed air demand by starting/stopping the driving motor as appropriate, on preset threshold pressure
